SWAP, Working Holiday Program (SWAP) is a smart way to do a number of things simultaneously. Not only will you make money and travel overseas, but you'll gain meaningful, real work experience to put on your resume and a new perspective on the world.

SWAP will arrange all your travel and work visas. Once you're overseas, the in-country hosting centers will help you find a job and accommodation, and even show you where to go grocery shopping.

SWAP operates in the following countries: Britain, Ireland (or work a combination), Australia, New Zealand (or work a combination), Japan, France, Germany, Austria, South Africa, Ghana and the United States.

 What is SWAP?

 SWAP is an international work assistance program that helps intrepid young Canadians find working opportunities overseas. Since 1975, thousands have lived and worked abroad through SWAP. The seemingly daunting task of organizing a work and travel experience is made simple by using SWAP resources. While still in Canada, you will be helped through the maze of foreign government documents which can confuse the most experienced travellers. Planning for your flights and travel will be easy with expert advice from your Gap Year Abroad Specialist.

 Overseas, SWAP's various partner organizations are in place to guide you throughout your stay. They will explain the job and accommodation markets, assist you through any "culture shock" you may experience, and ease your overall transition. These overseas centres are your safety net and will be there to help you every step of the way.

Where Can You Go with SWAP?

How Long? How Much?

SWAP and its overseas partners provide you with all the necessary tools and information to find a job for yourself. This allows you all the flexibility and mobility you need to truly learn about the host country and its people. Generally speaking the average number of days it takes creative SWAPPERS to find work is from 3 – 8 days. Not very long at all!

Hourly wages depend on the country in which you're working and the occupation you choose. Without too much difficulty you should be making enough money to pay for your necessities and have a little left over to enjoy yourself and travel around on your days off. You probably won't come home rich – in your bank account that is. But it's guaranteed that you'll come home enriched by the amazing experience you have had.
