Flying will be the fastest and most economical way to get to most destinations. Your airline ticket represents the biggest single expense of your trip, so talk to your travel agent about how to get the best fare possible.
Student Class Airfares™
Student Class Airfares are available to full-time students with an International Student Identity Card (ISIC). The ISIC is your internationally recognized proof of student status. Student Class™ fares are available for worldwide destinations, have some amount of flexibility and are good for one year.
Youth Airfares
If you're not a full-time student but under 26, these are the fares for you. This time you'll need an International Youth Travel Card (IYTC) as your proof of youth status.
Charter Flights
Charter airlines differ from national airlines. They tend to charge less because they don't fly internationally to as many places. They also tend to provide "no frills" service and have more restrictions about luggage weight and carry-ons than the national airlines. Budget-minded travellers tend not to mind all that; they're too busy saving money!
Sky Bucks
All the factors listed below can be squeezed, poked and prodded into saving you even more money on your airfare. You'll be asked these questions at the time of booking, so have an idea ahead of time-and remember, staying flexible means saving money.
- departure and return dates (what a difference a day makes!)
- travelling in high, mid or low season
- travelling mid-week or weekend
- length of stay
- arrival city
- departure city
Regardless of the type of airfare you choose – student, youth, budget or otherwise – make sure you know and understand all the rules and conditions of your ticket at the time of booking. Changing things after the fact will either not be possible or cost you big bucks.
